Psychological Services Department: Overview
The Northampton Area School District's school psychologists and school psychology interns possess specialized training in both psychology and education, and use their training and skills to help children and adolescents succeed academically, socially and emotionally. Our school psychologists accomplish this by teaming with educators, parents, and other stakeholders to ensure that each child's education is as rewarding as possible.
What Do School Psychologists Do?
School psychologists are child advocates who use multiple strategies to investigate and address individual student needs, as well as ways to improve school and district-wide systems for the benefit of all students. This is accomplished many ways and include:
- Individual Evaluation and Assessment
- Consultation
- Crisis Prevention & Intervention
- Individual Counseling
- Pre-referral Intervention
- Education & Training Programs
- School-Wide Positive Behavior Support (SWPBS)
In addition, school psychologists develop and facilitate educational programs for other administrators, teachers, and parents that focus on effective learning strategies, behavior management, learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral difficulties, and crisis response.Who are the School Psychologists?
