NASD Academic Plan - Extended Closure

March 25, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,

A team of NASD administrators and teachers developed an academic online learning plan so students have the opportunity to grow and maintain content knowledge and skills during extended school closure.

The following website link: Northampton Area School District Academic Plan for Extended School Closure is located here in blue and will also be located on the District website for your reference. At this website, you will find information about logging on to your child’s courses and classroom lessons and assignments. Students should logon and complete work daily.  The online learning plan will begin implementation on Monday, March 30, 2020, and continue through Wednesday, April 8, 2020.

The current last day of the 3rd marking period will be changed from Thursday, March 26, to Sunday, March 29, 2020.  At this time, the 3rd marking period grades and progress reports will not be finalized. We need to keep the 3rd marking period open in case of future changes in the educational plan.  The 3rd marking period report cards and progress reports will be generated at a later date to be determined.

The 4th marking period will begin on Monday, March 30, 2020. All grades from instruction, activities, and assessments starting March 30, 2020 and onward will be entered into the 4th marking period.

Online learning brings new experiences for students, parents, and teachers.  Virtual learning may require alternative methods of instruction and assessment that may be different from the face-to-face learning environment.   Our teachers understand that students may not have access to printed materials, textbooks, and other resources commonly used in the traditional school classroom.  Therefore, all learning resources will be accessible to students online. Please refer to the Northampton Area School District Academic Plan for Extended School Closure which outlines student expectations, attendance, lessons, and assignments.

Please reach out to your building principal through email if you have questions pertaining to your child’s unique learning situation.  Also, as your child begins online learning on March 30, if you have any questions about the content and skills your child is learning, please contact your child’s teacher through email.  If you or you child have technology questions or need technology help at home, parents or students may fill out a quick form for assistance at the following online location: https://www.nasdschools.org/helpdesk

We appreciate your patience and flexibility as we navigate this unprecedented time.  As a District, we will continue to update you on the latest information we receive from the state and local authorities.  We wish you and your family health and happiness during the extended school closure and the implementation of the online learning academic plan.

Sincerely,

Joseph S. Kovalchik
